There was a time in D.L. Moody's life that he purposed to witness to at least
one soul everyday of his life. This became a practice that he kept until the
end of his life. One day he asked someone if they were saved. The person looked
at him and said, "Sir, that is none of your business." Moody looked
at him and said very kindly, "Sir, that is my business."

Mohandas Ghandi, the famed leader of
Robert Ingersoll, the infidel notorious for his attacks on the Bible, had a
godly aunt. He sent her a copy of one of his books against the Bible. In the
flyleaf he wrote: “If all Christians had lived like Aunt Sarah perhaps this
book would have never been written.”
There are many people going to hell because of people who are going to heaven.
Many believers live a life that is repealing rather than appealing. They are a
blight to the name of Christ rather than a light for the cause of Christ. Dick
Sheppard said, “The greatest handicap the Church has is the unsatisfactory
lives of professing Christians.”
A man was speaking on a street corner and said, “Socialism will give you a new
job. Socialism will give you a new house. Socialism will give you a new coat to
wear. Can anyone tell me anything that is better than that?” An old man stepped
forward and said, “Yes, I can! Salvation in Jesus Christ! Salvation will put a
new man on the job; salvation will put a new man in the house and a new man in
the coat.”
A certain businessman was asked how he had become so successful. He replied,
“Good decisions.” The questioner persisted, “But how did you learn to make good
decisions?” The crusty old fellow answered, “Experience.” One more question
then followed. “Well, how did you get the experience?” He answered, “Bad
decisions.”
Ruth Stewart wrote:
If asked what of Jesus I think,
Though still my best thoughts are but poor,
I'll say He's my meat and my drink,
My life, and my strength, and my store;
My Shepherd, my Husband, my friend,
My Saviour from sin and from thrall,
My hope from beginning to end,
My Lord, and my God, and my all. 1
If there is one thing I have learned in the years I have been saved and serving
the Lord, it is that Jesus is all I need. When I think of all Jesus, I think of
One of Whom:
To His omniscience there is no orbit
To His excellence there is no end
To His sovereignty there is no shoreline
To His lordship there is no limitation
To His dominion there is no demarcation
To His compassion there is no circumference
To His blessing there is no border
To His glory there is no grave
Who is Jesus?
In transcendence Christ surmounts all other celebrities
In resplendence Christ supersedes all other royalties
In magnificence Christ excels all other majesties
In effulgence Christ eclipses all other worthies
In valiance Christ exceeds all other delivers
In excellence Christ outvies all other dignitaries
In endurance Christ outshines all other potentates
When I look at Christ I see that:
The values of His victory are more virtuous
The comforts of His compassion are more copious
The legacies of His love are more lustrous
The gifts of His grace are more generous
The favors of His friendship are more famous
The pledges of His promise are more precious
The works of His wisdom are more wondrous.
When I talk about Jesus, I speak of One Whom:
His righteousness never recedes
His loving-kindness never lessens
His faithfulness never fails
His comeliness never ceases
His delightfulness never dwindles
His preciousness never perishes
His steadfastness never subsides
His worthiness never wanes
The greatest lesson that I have learned in life is that Jesus is all I need.
Surrounded by God, encircled with love,
His arms are beneath, His eye is above,
A rearward behind me, a Leader before me,
He dwelleth within me, so what need I more?
Jesus is:
Mightiest in majesty
Strongest in sovereignty
Ablest in authority
Choicest in constancy
Chiefest in capability
Greatest in generosity
Stateliest in supremacy
Jesus is our all in all and all we need. I ask you:
What shall it profit a man if he be a great artist and know not Jesus, the One
altogether lovely?
What shall it profit a man if he be a great architect, and know Jesus the Chief
Cornerstone?

Living Bread?

Sure Foundation?

Door?

Great Physician?

of the Harvest?

Rock of Ages?

Bright and Morning Star?

Pearl of Great Price?
What shall it profit a man if he be a great lawyer and know not Jesus, the
Advocate?
What shall it profit a man if he be a great sculptor and know not Jesus the
Living Stone?
What shall it profit a man if he be a great student and know not Jesus, the
Incarnate Truth?
What shall it profit a man if he a great philanthropist and know not Jesus the
Unspeakable Gift?
Robert Summer in his book, "The Wonders of the Word of God," tells
about a man in
George Mueller, after having read the Bible through one hundred times with increasing
delight, made this statement: "I look upon it as a lost day when I have
not had a good time over the Word of God."
Dr. R.G. Lee once preached a message in which he came down fairly hard on sin.
After the service a lady that was obviously upset met him at the door. She
said, "I didn't appreciate that sermon one bit." Dr. Lee replied,
"The devil didn't either, so classify yourself."
There was this pastor that left this church. He lived up to all the people's
expectations and was willing to live on a very low salary, to boot. He loved to
work around the parsonage and keep both house and grounds in repair. But the
new pastor wasn't that type. He hired someone to do a lot of these chores,
including the mowing of the parsonage grass. Naturally, this cost more money.
This change of pattern was of concern to some of the deacons of the church. One
day one of them approached the new pastor and tried to bring this up tactfully.
He said to the new pastor, "You know, our previous pastor mowed the lawn
himself. Have you considered this approach?" The new pastor came back,
"Yes, I'm aware of this. And I asked him. But he doesn't want to do it
anymore!"
Over the years I have pastored, I have found that people who want to do
something are not always plentiful. You always have those who are willing to do
anything, but quite often the majority don't want to do anything. I think of a
letter that was circulated in a large congregation. It read:
Dear Member:
Our Church membership 1400
Nonresident members 75
Balance left to do the work 1325
Elderly who have done their share 25
Balance left to do the work 1300
Sick and shut-ins 25
Balance left to do the work 1275
Members who do not give 350
Christmas and Easter members 300
Balance left to do the work 625
Members who are overworked 300
Balance left to do the work 325
Members with alibis 200
Balance left to do the work 125
Members too busy with others things 123
Balance left to do the work 2
Unfortunately, that is often the case in many a Church. In most Churches it is
10 per cent that do 90 per cent of the work. The rest are spectators instead of
participators.
